The Coercive Acts or Better Known as the Intolerable Acts

The Coercive Acts, also known as the Intolerable Acts, was passed by the British Parliament in 1774. The cause of these acts were that the British Parliament wanted to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party. The three laws of the Intolerable Acts targeted the colonists but the Quebec Act did not.The first law of the Coercive Acts was the Boston Port Act to close down the port of Boston until the colonists had payed for the tea the had destroyed at the Boston Tea Party. The second law was the Quartering Act that said Massachusetts would be placed under the control of the British Army, which is also known as martial law.The third law of the Intolerable Acts that Parliament had passed was Administration of Justice Act that said British officials charged with crime while carrying out British laws in Massachusetts can be tried in England without colonial witnesses. The forth law of the Intolerable Acts, known as the Quebec Act did not target the colonists in Massachusetts, but established government for the province of Quebec, however this made the colonists mad.The fifth law of the Coercive Acts known as the Massachusetts Government Act was created to try to regain order in Massachusetts Bay. This Act abolished the colony's charter and gave more control of the state to royal control. It made the King of Great Britain the only person with the power to appoint and dismiss the executive council.
